First thing you need to know: I’m a weirdo. I have a lot of varied, often nerdy interests and quirky hobbies and topics that are dear to me. I also use words strangely, and stuff like that.
Some biographical info:
I am 52 years old (born in 1972 - solidly Gen-X). I was born in Chicago, and then moved to Colorado when I was 4 years old, and lived there until my early 20’s. I have lived numerous other places since, including a 24-year-long stint in Austin, Texas, which ended in 2021. That was when I moved back to where I grew up, in Colorado. I'm so glad to be back in my hometown after all these years, and I wish I had moved back sooner. But life circumstances, eh.
I started doing Art when I was a toddler (as most people I know do). Over the years I have dabbled in a great variety of things, taking my talents and skills further in some key areas, like writing, weaving, graphic design, and so forth.
I have been digging through and organizing my archives of decades of pictures and other materials, and scanning old Artwork as well. I hope to flesh out all the pages in this website to talk about and show off my Art of various kinds.
I’m definitely more skilled in some Arts than others. I still have fun dabbling and being a dilettante in media and formats that I am not very adept at. I have had a tendency to get into a certain medium or craft and then after I gather tools and supplies, I build or make a prototype or two, and then I quickly move on to another thing.
I used to get down on myself a bit for only dabbling sometimes and having so many unfinished projects and un-realized plans, but nowadays, I realize that I was learning and expanding my overall talents even when I didn't delve deeply into any given area. Sometimes I learned “wow, this Art form is just not for me”. That's still very valuable.
I am against Art snobbery, and I have a rant to write about this, actually. I think everyone can be an Artist if they want to be. Many people start doing Art as toddlers and in preschool or kindergarten, and then later they are made to think that they somehow aren’t good enough to be an Artist or to do Art. This is a tragedy, in my view.
I think that Art is one of the most amazing and powerful expressions of what it means to be human, and that everyone should participate if they can and have any inkling of a desire to do so.
