I was educated from kindergarten through 12th grade in the Cherry Creek School District in Aurora, Colorado. I started kindergarten in 1977 at the age of 5, and I graduated from Overland High School in 1990 at the age of 17.

I was fortunate to be able to live in this district, which was exceedingly well-funded and could attract the best teachers due to this and other factors, including a reputation for excellence.

I was a poor kid, but I got a great k-12 education.
