I’m not sure when I made these grids, but the files are dated in August of 2000. I had noticed that when two post-it tape flags that had a red dot grid pattern overlapped, the dots made an interesting interference pattern.
So I decided to see what patterns I could make with a larger grid. I printed out clear transparency sheets (for an overhead projector) with grids of dots, using just periods. I made two of them so that I could overlap them. This showed the interlaced lattice formed by the interference pattern of the dot grids.
I found that the designs and repeating patterns looked really cool, some of them looking almost like pie pieces, with other triangles and things as well. It looked a bit like an old European city when seen from above.
I plan to do more of these eventually with graphic design on the computer. These could be a good source of patterns for making other Artwork as well, including fabric designs. I’m eager to explore where this will go. I wonder how far I can take it. :)
