I have enjoyed music since I was a baby, as many people do. :) My mother used to sing to me, and I learned to sing well in elementary school. I enjoy singing very much, but I lack operatic-type talents and the bravery to perform on stage. I just like to sing to myself and maybe a handful of close friends or family.
I have tried out various musical instruments, in addition to my significant experience with the trumpet in elementary school. These include: clarinet, French horn, piano, electronic keyboard (some of them quite small), kalimba, alto recorder, soprano recorder (the kind most people are familiar with), guitar, ukulele, and xylophone. This is not a complete list.
The instruments that I attained the most proficiency with are: trumpet, keyboard, alto recorder, ukulele, and guitar. Most of the other instruments I have only dabbled in a little bit or tried them out and found them too difficult, or just not my cup of tea.
I currently own the following instruments: kalimba, alto recorder, and keyboard.
Song Composition
I have composed only a few songs, primarily two very short tunes that I would sing to my daughter when she was a baby. These are cute and she loves them, because they come from me. :) I have not delved deeply into music composition yet, but I hope and plan to do so.The Zyx's
I did not compose the tune of the abc's (shared by Baa Baa, Black Sheep and Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star), nor did I come up with the order of the English alphabet. However, I learned to sing the alphabet backwards when I was around 8 years old, with my friend who kept me company when I was obsessed with the swings at the playground where I grew up.
We worked out how to sing the alphabet backwards while we were swinging and enjoying ourselves, and just as a fun thing to do to occupy our minds while we spent hours and hours swinging back and forth, punctuated only by our occasional, gleeful backflips off the swings. We also sang other songs quite a bit, including Joy To The World.
