Heather Ridge apartment complex - In 1977, when I was four years old, my family moved to Colorado, and we lived in an apartment complex that had a Timberform playground. It was mostly composed of square douglas fir logs. This playground was absolutely epic, and I will do a whole page about it.
We kids played a form of tag there that we invented, known as Wood Tag. If you've ever played "the floor is lava", what we did was similar - the gravel was lava, and would make you "it" if you lost your balance and stepped into it.
The layout of the square logs and the structures made from them were absolutely incredible for this game. It was great fun, and I have some writing already done about it. I have also created some diagrams of the layout of the logs, and the larger playground area around the gravel-filled area.
Eastridge Elementary School playground (1977-1985) - At school we had multiple awesome playgrounds and structures too.
IBM playground in Austin, Texas - Around the turn of the millenium, I worked for IBM for several years. IBM had a huge campus in Austin, and there was an area with sports facilities and fields, and also an excellent playground. They had employee sports leagues at the time, and I played volleyball in one.
The land was eventually sold and now a shopping and residential development called The Domain is located where most of the IBM campus once stood.
I have some video of my daughter and myself at the IBM playground that I took in 2002, but I will have to dig through my archives to find it again. I used to take her there when she was very little.
